What is the difference between Laminate and Vinyl flooring?

Laminate wood flooring is a type of hard flooring manufactured from recycled wood, with a transparent wear layer on top to protect it from scratches. It has to be placed on level surface, to ensure that the tiles do not warp. Due to the fact that it’s made from real wood, it is not recommended to install laminate flooring in bathrooms or rooms that experience high levels of moisture.

Vinyl flooring is manufactured from synthetic materials that realistically mimics the appearance of real wood. They are more durable and easy to maintain, as they are waterproof. If a tile is damaged, it can be easily replaced. Vinyl floors provide the look and feel of wood floors without actually using wood. As such, vinyl flooring is usually recommended due to their higher durability and longer life.

What is the difference between traditional Wood Decking & Composite Decking?

While wood decking is made from real lumber, composite wood decking is made from a mixture of wood fibre and recycled plastic. This material is more durable and denser than normal wood. Normal wood is much more susceptible to wood decay, splitting, delamination and termites. This is especially undesirable for outdoor balconies and porches, which are often exposed to harsh environments such as rain and sunlight. Composite wood is often recommended as they are engineered to be more resistant to scratches, mold, stains, termites, moisture and have a longer life than normal wood decking. In addition, composite wood is environmentally-friendly as it is manufactured mostly from recycled materials.

In terms of performance, NBL WPC decking does a lot of things that wood just cannot. One disadvantage of using wood is that when it absorbs water, it will begin to swell and then will shortly expand and contract especially along its width. This will be shortly followed by cracking, splitting and rotting. Eventually, all these flaws will ruin the structural integrity of the decking and thus will make the life span shorter. Whereas, NBL WPC decking only has a water absorption rate of 0.2% hence preventing all these problems.
